Heather Young

For more than 20 years, Heather Young has honed her skills as a financial management instructor, first at Humber College’s Arts Administration programs. More recently at Humber’s Fundraising and Volunteer Management program, and the University of Toronto’s Arts Administration and Cultural Management program.

Her teaching experience inspired the creation of Finance for the Arts in Canada, a textbook addressing both accounting and financial management for small to mid-sized not-for-profits in the arts.

Heather’s experience includes leadership roles with a variety of arts and heritage service organizations, theatre and dance producing companies, galleries and museums, facilities, festivals and community organizations, in both professional and volunteer capacities.

Young Associates, founded in 1993, provides a broad range of services to not-for-profits, encompassing full-service bookkeeping, data management, research, training and consulting services, focused on small to mid-sized organizations. Recent strategic and business planning assignments include Municipal Cultural Planning Inc., Ontario Association of Art Galleries, CARFAC Ontario and Artist-Run Centres and Collectives of Ontario.

Heather’s experience with the financial aspects of a wide variety of arts and cultural organizations has given her a unique insight into the planning needs of the field, and the characteristics of successful and sustainable organizations and communities.
