Sherri Helwig has taught practice- and policy-related courses within the long-standing undergraduate Arts Management program at the University of Toronto Scarborough since 2003, and has taught an intensive strategic leadership and board governance course in the Arts Management / Arts Leadership graduate programs at Queen's University since 2018.

Sherri has also served as an independent arts consultant since 1992, and is a Founding Member of Arts Consultants Canada / Consultants canadiens en arts (ACCA).

Her teaching and consulting work is informed by many years of progressively responsible cultural management experience, including eight years serving as Executive Director of national arts service organizations. More recently, she spent half of a year-long sabbatical from the University of Toronto (in 2017) in focused arts management practice in the role of Interim Executive Director/Curator of the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington (VAC), a public gallery dedicated to arts education and the exhibition of contemporary art.

Sherri has served as a member of several boards, committees, advisory groups, and grant review panels, and as Scholar-in-Residence at American University in Washington D.C. and Senior Research Fellow with the Canadian Conference of the Arts in Ottawa. She has taught for York University, Humber College, and the Harris Institute (in addition to UTSC and Queen’s), and lectured extensively across Canada and within the United States, Italy, Finland, Spain and The Netherlands on a wide range of subjects. Most recently, Sherri volunteers with Business for the Arts (as an artsVest™ mentor) and served as a juror for the Musical, Opera, and Touring sections of Toronto’s Dora awards.
